Orange has pushed out Android 2.2, AKA Froyo, to Samsung Galaxy S owners, bringing a suite of new features to the handsets.

The carrier announced that it had rolled out the upgrade via its Twitter feed. Improvements that the bump to the newer version of Google’s smartphone operating system offers include Google Maps GPS navigation and voice guidance, as well as Flash support and speed enhancements.

Also new to the handsets is the option to use them as mobile broadband dongles via its hitherto unavailable tethering function, thus enabling you to connect up to five 3G devices to the net simultaneously.

And finally, Google has improved the Android Market, so it's slicker and easy to navigate and now auto updates.

To get the update, you’ll first need to grab Samsung’s download solution Kies. Once that’s installed, you can download it your PC and transfer it from thence to your smartie.

It goes without saying that you should also back up your personal data - just in case.

I've just been told by Orange customer service that the upgrade is not out until 1st week in February. Useless. They said they will send a text message to my Galaxy S when it is available for download.
