3 is almost ready to push out Android 2.2, AKA Froyo, to the HTC Wildfire, it has been confirmed.

The carrier confirmed via its Twitter feed that it plans to release an over the air Android operating system upgrade to HTC’s budget blower.

Asked by a follower when it’s due to arrive the network replied “very soon” and announced it will further “update everyone this week”.

Android 2.2 will add a host of new features to the Wildfire. Among these is tethering - the option to use the handset as a Wi-Fi mobile broadband dongle to get online with multiple 3G enabled devices.

Owners can also look forward to improved camera capabilities (think: 720p video capture), performance enhancements and support for installing apps to a microSD card.

And in news not to be sniffed at given the at-times disappointing battery life of some handsets, you’ll also get more juice out of your Wildfire too.

My mum has the Wildfire on 3 and had a large update this morning which I assume is the 2.2. It's brought extra features but I haven't been able to check it yet.

After years of sticking with 3 I may just shove it back and go with another carrier, given that they recommended this phone to me, am sick of waiting for this upgrade, shambolic service, last by months to get it sorted.
