Motorola Atrix

Motorola has announced that it will be launching its fastest handset to date, the dual-core Atrix, running on Google’s Android operating system.

Hot on the heels of the unveiling of its Xoom Android tablet for Verizon, Moto wasted little time to prove its commitment to follow up its efforts in 2010, in which it released 26 handsets.

As well as the Atrix, the US smartphone maker will be launching the Cliq 2 (to be known as Dext 2 in the UK) and the Droid Bionic. The latter is unlikely to make it here though, as it runs on the next-generation LTE networks which the UK currently doesn’t support.

The Atrix will boast 1GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM, plus the “world’s first qHD pentile display for a smartphone, offering high resolution and 24-bit color, making it easier to read indoors and outdoors”. It will house dual front and rear-mounted cameras (eight-megapixel on the back), a biometric fingerprint reader, a massive 1930 mAH battery and 16GB of internal storage for all your multimedia.

Dext 2 on the other hand will pack a standard 1GHz processor, slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a 3.7-inch panel.

Although no firm release dates were given, the Atrix is due for release “later this year” on Orange. No word yet on the release of the Dext 2 but we reckon that T-Mobile would be the first to snap it up.
