Not up for trawling gadget and phone shops for your beloved’s gift? The good news is you don’t have to. For the inside line on what to buy the tech fancier in your life, look no further than Top10.com’s tech-savvy guide.

1 Android merch: T-Shirts, designer toys, USB sticks

For fully paid-up Fandroids, it’s just not enough to own the latest phone running Google’s OS and know everything there is to know about platform updates, fragmentation and custom skins. Mindful of this, the search giant has flooded the market with appealing merch.

Take your pick from a selection of Android tees, a baseball cap or a USB stick. Our favourites, though, are the range of designer toys, the most recent of which gives the smiling ‘droid a rather lovely festive makeover.

2 Angry Birds plushes

Ahead of the animated series based on the best-selling casual games hit, you can grab yourself a cuddly toy. Both the birds and their porcine enemies have been given the fluffy treatment. And they’re a bit of a snip at $14.99 (about £12).

The bad news is that Rovio won’t begin shipping them until January. So if you opt for one these you’d better make sure the giftee is happy to defer their pleasure and won’t be too annoyed to get a scribbled I.O.U on Christmas Day.

3 Mobile Protector

Japanese tech firms can always be relied on to come up with wacky solutions to problems you never knew existed. Exhibit A) is this phone protector come holster that appears to be fashioned from off-cuts from a supermarket food basket. The idea we’re guessing is that it keeps your phone safe while making you appear every inch the bad ass.

If you lived in a dystopian future society you might conceivably need one of these. If you live in 21st century Britain, you probably don’t. But if there’s anyone cyberpunk leanings in your life, you know they’d sell their last implanted memory to get their hands on this.

4 Sony Ericsson LiveView

Compared with iPhone add-ons, Android accessories can seem a bit drab. Not so, the LiveView, which is essentially a 1.3-inch secondary screen that links to your Android phone via Bluetooth. Sure, it might look like a common or garden single-purpose stopwatch, but it’s packed with functionality.

It real USP, though, is that when worn on your wrist, you can check all your Tweets, texts and catch up with sundry other gossip without having to look at your handset. Trust us, that’s a boon when you’re sitting in interminable meetings. You can also use it to control music while your smartie is in your pocket. Plus packs a dedicated jogging app and monitor your heart rate, speed and distance. So it kind of is like a stopwatch, really.

5 iPhone Rock Docks

We're not sure what 'rock' has got to do with GeekUnique’s iPhone holders. But we do know that with models based on the NES classic controller, vintage games cartridges and even a Billy Joel album on the unlamented Super 8 format, they’re a cut above the usual deathly dull minimal docks you usually have to content yourself with.

The only downside is you can’t use the controllers with iPhone games. They’re just docks, plain and simple.

6 Freedom Pro keyboard

This is essentially a generously sized physical, QWERTY keyboard for efficient text entry and working on the go when you’ve only got your smarpthone to hand. There’s also a set of predetermined shortcut keys that launch apps and the option to set a lot more custom ones.

Rather impressively you can expect about 90 hours use with two AAA batteries. And its folding mechanism means it’s compact and eminently portable. The Freedom Pro is compatible with BlackBerrys running OS 4.0 or above and Android phones. It won’t work with an iPhone, though.

7 Hasbro My3D

Toy titans Hasbro brought a lot of joy into a lot of childhoods. We’ve got them to thank for Transformers, for a start. And lucky for us they’ve set their hearts on bringing some of that fun to the iPhone.

In a nutshell, this is a gigantic pair of specs that enable you to view content and play games in eye-popping 3D. There’s content on the way from Dreamworks, Sony and Imax and a host of specially created titles incoming that’ll be sold through the App Store.

The bad news? It’s not hitting the US until Spring 2011. So we can probably expect a UK release in Q3 at the earliest. But, erm, it’ll make a great present for next Christmas.

8 A.R Drone R/C helicopter

Never mind BigTrak. That was cool in the 1980s when my best chum Ben got it to bring me a slice of moist Christmas cake. But the Parrot A.R Drone is what it’s all about this yule.

In case you’ve yet to hear about it, it’s an iPhone-controlled helicopter. You simply tilt your handset and touch the screen to make it perform all sorts of aerial trickery. It’s also got a camera so you can see what the pilot would see and augmented reality games for you to play. Best of all is the option to conduct duels with another Drone and live out your Blue Thunder/Airwolf fantasies.

9 BlackBerry Torch Otterbox Commuter Series case

With its social networking optimised OS 6 and time-honoured messaging capabilities, it’s likely that, if you’re lucky enough to own one, the BlackBerry Torch is already pretty integral to your day to day life.

That means that you really, really don’t want to lose use of it through being a bit clumsy. To be sure, you may want to grab this super robust case. You get not one, but three layers of protection.

Firstly, there’s a shield for your touchscreen. Then to keep your ports safe, there’s a middle layer fashioned from silicone that plugs them. And finally, there’s the polycarbonite outer casing to protect the shell. It’d a special effort to break your Torch when it’s in this.

10 Griffin GuitarConnect

This basically an amp in your pocket. Just connect the cable to your guitar, bass or keyboard and you’ve got yourself an an eight-effect pedal board with digital tuner, metronome and a playalong practice player that lets you play along with your face-melting favourites.

There’s also a free iShred Live app that lets you create sounds with the eight customisable effects pedals.
