Some of the UK’s largest high street retailers have sold out of the iPad, fuelling further speculation that stocks are being run down in preparation for the imminent release of a second-gen Apple tablet.

According to IT Pro Portal, Argos and Misco are both sold out of some editions of the slate. And stocks would appear to be short on some models at Carphone Warehouse too, which is only stocking the 16GB and 32GB versions sans 3G support.

The lack of availability for the product is being widely interpreted by Cupertino watchers as a sign that sellers are winding down their stockholdings, ahead of the much-anticipated iPad 2.

News of developments comes amid speculation that the iPad 2 could now be delayed from April until June. The move has apparently been forced on Apple by “production bottlenecks” at its main Chinese manufacturing partners.

Mooted features for the tablet include expandable memory, support for Near Field Communications (NFC) technology and dual cameras for video calling.

Apple would never bring two products ot market in the same month. Esp not when they're competing products. iPad 2 in April, iPhone 5 in June. Nothing has changed.
