The iPad 2 will easily quash its Android Honeycomb powered rivals in the tablet market this year, an analyst forecasts, as punters opt for Apple’s device’s slick user experience over the more geeky charms of kit running Google’s OS.

According to Trip Chowdhry of Global Equities Research, Honeycomb slates will not find favour with the mass market because at their core they have been created by “the geeks for the geeks”.

Speaking to business daily Forbes, Chowdhry also claims that the Android OS is awash with shortcomings that will hamper its crossover appeal.

Basing his assessment on the Motorola Xoom – the slate that debuts the tablet optimised Honeycomb iteartion of the Android - he drew attention to persistent crashes and freezes as well as shonky battery life with standby time of just 10 to 12 hours compared with the iPad’s 30 days.

Chowdhry’s scathing remarks come on the day that the iPad 2 officially goes on sale in the US. UK iFans will be able to get their hands on the second-gen Apple slate from March 25th.
