Sony Ericsson Xperia Play

The fabled PlayStation phone has finally gone on sale today on select UK networks, despite some carriers opting to delay its release to iron out last-minute glitches.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is available to buy directly on Orange and T-Mobile and from branches of Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U right now. However, O2, 3 and Vodafone have both postponed the launch for different reasons.

Earlier this week, O2 said it was holding the handset back after purportedly uncovering firmware bugs that it claimed could significantly impair the user experience it offers.

Meanwhile, Vodafone and 3 have today announced that supply chain problems mean that it will not be able to offer the phone from today.

Touted as the saviour of the somewhat moribund Android gaming scene, the Xperia Play offers dedicated physical controls and a fine-looking library of PSP and PSOne games.

Other standout features include a four-inch touchscreen, the latest 2.3 version of Android out of the box and a dual core 1GHz processor.
