Sony Ericsson has lifted the lid on two new additions to the burgeoning range of Android powered Xperia smartphones, offering improved Facebook integration and the latest version of Google’s OS.

The Xperia Mini and Mini Pro both pack Android 2.3, AKA Gingerbread, run on 1GHz Snapdragon processors to keep everything running buttery smooth and feature the same Mobile Bravia Engine display tech that makes the Arc’s screen such a doozie.

They’re also home to 'Facebook Inside Xperia', which “integrates social connections throughout the phone by making Facebook immediately accessible from the most used areas of the phone”, five-megapixel cameras with HD video recording and three-inch screens.

The handsets differ only in the respect that the more business focussed Mini Pro features a physical QWERTY keyboard for tapping out for mails and messages quickly and efficiently and comes pre-loaded with the Microsoft Office suite.

Steve Walker, Head of Marketing at Sony Ericsson, said: “We wanted to provide consumers even greater choice across the Xperia™ range, while building on the success of the original mini series.

“They are packed full of features, making them a perfect choice for consumers looking for all the benefits of Android and Sony in a beautiful and easy to use compact form factor.”

Smartfans will be able to get their hands on the Xperia Mini from August. The Pro variant is expected to show up at some stage during Q3.

Carriers have yet to be confirmed.
