Android 2.3, AKA Gingerbread, is available to download now for the HTC Desire HD on T-Mobile, bringing some smart new features to HTC’s blockbuster Android kit.

T-Mobile confirmed that Gingerbread is up for grabs via its Twitter feed. The update to the latest version of Google’s smartphone operating system adds a revamped virtual keyboard to the handset, plus improved copy and paste.

The OS bump also features performance enhancements to make for a faster, smoother smartphone experience.

It’s not yet clear if T-Mobile’s partner network Orange will follow suit with a rollout imminently.

Android 2.3 made its handset debut way, way back in December last year with the launch of the Google Nexus S.

The rollout to carrier branded smartphones from third party phone makers has been delayed by the now-familiar trials of network testing, as well as the need for manufacturers to ensure compatibility with their custom user interfaces.
