Samsung will launch the Galaxy Tab 10.1 with the stock version of Android 3.1, it has been confirmed, as it looks to steal a march on rivals by being the first slate to drop with the latest version of Google’s tablet OS on board.

Due to go on sale in the US imminently, the Tab 10.1 had been expected to feature Sammy’s social networking-focussed TouchWiz Android skin front and centre.

Not so. The press release for the latest addition to the burgeoning Galaxy Tablet range reveals that it will pack the unadulterated version of 3.1 out of box. TouchWiz will, however, be available as a download at a later date – presumably via Kies.

3.1 brings a host of sweet features to the Tab 10.1. Chief among these is the option to add extra input devices, such as games controllers, mice and trackpads.

Also on board is slicker multi-tasking, plus oodles of scope for customisation thanks to the ability to stretch widgets on the homescreen to dimensions of your choosing.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is hitting store shelves in the US on June 17th. There’s no word when it’ll land this side of the Pond, but rest assured we’ll let you know as soon as we do.
