Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread lands on Google Nexus One on Vodafone

Android 2.3.4 is available to download now for Google Nexus One owners on Vodafone, bringing some cool new features to the 14-month-old smartie.

The OS bump adds a revamped keyboard with copy and paste functionality to Google’s first-ever branded handset and ushers in a faster and simpler user interface.

To make for a smoother and more reliable smartphone experience, power management has been improved too. And there’s multiple camera management to look forward to, plus internet calling via SIP.

As is the way with over the air (OTA) updates, it’s a staggered rollout. That means you’ll have to bide your time until you get a notification telling you that your upgrade is ready for download.

However, we don’t think that’s too onerous. In fact, if anything, the software bump’s relatively timely arrival on the Nexus One compared to rivals' phones is yet another endorsement of the good sense of those of you who bought kit running vanilla Android.

That’s especially so in the light of the plight of HTC Desire owners who are still stuck on Android 2.2 for the foreseeable future, due to problems getting the newer versions of the OS to work with its Sense custom skin.

Not too much to be smug about if you got a Nexus One. It wasn't a great phone, TBH.

2.3.3 just rolled on to my HTC D HD but 2.3.4 GB for this platform looks to be a vague and distant wish! Bummer if you are developing Open Accessory apps.

Just allowed the new gingerbread update on my Nexus One and BIG problems already, as other internet forum comments would endorse.

One of these is very poor 3G signal whereas although not always great, was much better before the update - net browsing is now almost impossible in most areas.

ALSO, something (since the update) seems to be drawing on my monthly DATA download of 1GB - and its not me using it!! Just had a text saying my monthly allowance is almost used up!!

Very unhappy and Vodafone Tech Support (in Cairo!!) not able to say anything about this..."it may be a software problem sir" etc.

Been a faithful Voda customner since about 1987, but they will need to give me much better support and a very quick fix for thes problems to keep my business!

    :((((
