White Samsung Galaxy S2

Samsung has officially announced that the white edition of its Galaxy S2 smartphone will land in store shelves in the UK in September.

Hot on the heels of reports that online vendors in Blighty have begun taking preorders the handset for an August 15th launch, Samsung has now confirmed that it will be available in these shores “across all major networks and retailers” from September 1st.

Simon Stanford, Managing Director, Mobile, Samsung UK and Ireland said: "Sales of the Galaxy S2 have surpassed all expectations since its release in May this year.

“The arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S2 white brings to market an incredibly stylish addition to our latest multi-award winning handset.”

The Galaxy S2 is currently one of the best-selling Android phones out there with sales in excess of five million units in just three months. The timing of the white S2’s release is no doubt planned as a pre-emptive strike on Apple’s imminent launch of the iPhone 5, which is now expected to land in mid-September.

The white re-spray aside, specs of the S2 remain unchanged from the original black model. These include a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, a 1.2GHz dual core processor and an eight-megapixel camera with autofocus and 1080p video recording smarts. It is also the slimmest Android handset on the market, measuring just 8.49 inches in thickness.

Update:

Three has just announced it will be offering the Galaxy S2 on contract from £30 a month or for £35 a month on The One Plan, which comes with 2000 anytime, any network minutes, 5000 texts and all-you-can-eat data.

Pay as you go customers will be able to pick up the handset for £499.99 with a choice of Three's All in One 15 and All in One 25 tariffs. The former entitles takers to a month's access to all-you-can-eat data along with 300 anytime, cross network minutes and 3,000 texts for £15. The latter is the same except it increases your minutes to 500 for £25 a month.
