After a long and arduous wait, Channel 4 has finally announced that an iPhone version of its 4OD application will be out imminently.

The app, which has been available on the iPad since April, will be released for the iPhone and iPod touch in September to mark the launch of a revamped 4OD service.

Users will have 30-day access to Channel 4 broadcasts, as well as archived episodes from shows such as The Inbetweeners and The IT Crowd.

The announcement comes as Brits with busy schedules increasingly rely on catch-up TV services to get their fill of entertainment.

With rapid advances in mobile internet, broadcasters have also shifted their focus on smartphones and tablets to reach their audience.

Apps for the BBC iPlayer and ITV Player are already available for iOS. Although there is a Demand 5 application from Channel 5, this is solely dedicated to Big Brother and we’re sure you have better ways to spend your time.
