UK retailers have slashed the asking price for the HTC Flyer tablet, sparking speculation that the gadget-maker will unveil its second tilt at an Android Honeycomb slate in a matter of days.

For the next ten days, Carphone Warehouse is selling the Wi-Fi-only 16GB Flyer for £329 and the 32GB edition for £449 - both sans SIM. That’s a saving of £150 compared with the retailer’s standard price points.

And Carphone isn’t the only one at it. BestBuy’s UK outlets have knocked off £150 from both Wi-Fi-only Flyer iterations too.

The price cuts – a time-honoured tactic from retailers when they’re looking to shift stock before it becomes less attractive - add weight to rumours that HTC’s Puccini slate will make its long-awaited debut at HTC’s September 1st showcase at the IFA tech expo.

Also expected to land at the Berlin-based event is the first-ever HTC Windows Mango phone provisionally dubbed the Omega.
