Android 2.3, aka Gingerbread, will be landing soon on Motorola Atrix handsets in the UK on Orange and T-Mobile, it has been confirmed.

The Atrix, which has been stuck with the ageing Android 2.2 (Froyo) since launch, has been an understandable a source of frustration for owners. However, that will change very soon.

A spokesperson for Everything Everywhere, the umbrella brand that operates the two networks, has told TechRadar that the update is already in testing and is likely to be rolled out within the next few weeks.

Exactly when it will drop is not known, but at least now you know it’s just around the corner.

Features Gingerbread brings include a revamped UI, an enhanced on-screen keyboard with better cut and paste functionality, Internet calling integration over SIP, an app manager to keep tabs on running applications and last but not least, all-round performance tweaks for a smoother, faster user experience.

Stay tuned for more gen on the Motorola Atrix Android update in the weeks to come.
