Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray ruled out for Three, Xperia Play sales to blame?

Three will not be offering Sony Ericsson’s (SE) new Android powered camera phone challenger, the Xperia Ray, suggesting that disappointingly weak demand for the Xperia Play has made the network a lot more cautious when ranging the phone-maker’s smarties.

The carrier announced it is no longer planning to carry the Ray via its customer support Twitter presence, having previously announced it was definitely getting on board with the phone way back in June.

The reason for the change of heart hasn’t been explained. But we wouldn’t discount the shortfall in demand for the Xperia Play, aka the PlayStation phone, as a key factor. Not least because Three was a very prominent partner in its promotion.

That’s not to say that other SE kits aren’t coming to the network, though. The Xperia Arc S and Live are very definitely still goers on Three. And the CS team promise we’re in for some other “exciting new SE products soon” too.
