iPhone 4S Vodafone pre-orders hit by delays

News

iPhone 4S handsets pre-ordered through Vodafone failed to arrive on time, reports suggest, leaving would-be early adopters kicking their heels.

According to the Register, which has been contacted by irate readers, many iPhone pre-order customers are still waiting on their new handset even now.

Perplexingly, it seems that many whose orders were processed early on during the network’s pre-sale scheme are receiving their kits after those who got their order in as late as the 13th – the day before it hit shop shelves in the UK.

And more galling still is that while the wait goes on for many, Vodafone retail outlets are apparently plentifully stocked with handsets, suggesting that something has gone wrong somewhere along the line.

Vodafone shop

Reg reader Johny said: “Phoning up you get told that there is no stock yet their website clearly states that the device is in stock.

“No one can answer you correctly and emails have gone unanswered for five days.”

Vodafone has purportedly told the site that the delay is being caused by credit checks on customers before phones are despatched, with lag times between getting some buyers’ details resulting in others jumping the queue.

Update...Spoke to Heather at Vodafone this am, still no iPhone 4s 16gb stock. She contacted warehouse, they do not know when they will receive. She also said she would feed back to the site manager for the website incorrectly stating delivery in 2-4 days. They have no stock and no ETA for stock arrival. I have been with Vodafone for 12 years and have never known such a debacle!

Heather did apologise and tell me they had put me back on my old tariff until 28th Oct and would extend this if still no phone received..??!!! I pointed out that they only did this yesterday when I called to ask for update of my order!, and insisted that I should not be paying for a new, more expensive tariff when Vodafone have been unable to supply the phone! Again she apologised but this is how Vodafones systems work...

My wife's experience with O2 .... My wife moved from O2 to Vodafone for the original iPhone, not wanting to queue in their stores she waited until yesterday to order her upgrade. Call made at 12:15 ish order confirmation received 12:19, they even price matched Vodafone tariff although they did warn her that they were on back order with a wait of 'up to 2 weeks' new price plan would kick in once phone is despatched. At 13:53 upgrade confirmation email received with tracking number, it is out for delivery today.

Given the vast vast difference between our experiences, I am very quickly running out of reasons to stay with Vodafone. I think in the end Vodafone have targeted new customers whilst us upgrades have been pushed to the back. Heather confirmed that Vodafones shops have stock, and so I can ask shop manager to give me one instead of waiting (managers discretion) whereas O2 have focused on existing customers, as far as I am aware, O2 are not currently selling to new customers...today's rant over!

I ordered my iphone 4s 16gb white handset, on 13th Oct. I was told it would probably arrive the next day. I am still waiting! I phoned, and was told it was out of stock, and would arrive this week, it has not arrived! I have emailed customer services, they say you will get a reply within 24hrs, i didnt get a reply for closer to 48 hrs!

The reply states it is out of stock....no date for when it will be in stock! I have phoned again today, and been told that it has been out of stock twice, and that the next delivery will be at least 10 days, but i am not guaranteed to receive the phone then! I asked if i could cancel my order, and have been told that i can only cancel upon receiving the phone!!!!!

I too have been a vodafone customer for over 10 years. They show no loyalty to existing customers, i will be sending the phone straight back and cancelling my contract, should i ever receive the handset!

Placed order on the 9th oct. got delivered the white 4s instead of a black one. Spent 1 hour on the phone to arrange the correct phone, got delivered a 4 8g instead of my 4s 64g.

Then another 1 hour on the phone to arrange the correct phone again, was told it would take 5 days and took another morning off work and waited for it to arrive, nothing.

Emailed Cust Svs, got a promising email with eta of new phone. Again nothing, replied to email and got nothing back, phoned Cust Svs got a blanket reply saying there is no date for arrival.

Yet apple have this available in all shops... I even asked them for Cust relations to respond to my email and got. O reply...it's been over 1 month and still no phone...utterly disgusted with Vodafone. I have lost 3 mornings unpaid from work, over 4 hours on the phone and sending emails. I got offered £20 credit as a gesture of goodwill....this is a very poor service and am considering consulting my Soliciter. This situation and lack of support for payed customers is ludicrous and unprofessional.

Seriously, Vodafone is messing around with everyone like some school kids. I suggest everyone complains like mad i.e. using watchdog etc. They are clearly misleading their customers as they have got too big for their boots. It's O2 all the way for me from now on!
