More rumoured details of the fifth-generation iPhone have emerged online, ahead of its mooted due date next summer.

According to a “trusted source” cited by iLounge.com, the iPhone 5 will indeed feature the larger four-inch display that’s been mooted by Apple watchers for aeons now.

However, in a new development, the site’s tech deep throat also claims that in order to accommodate the more capacious screen (apparently already in production at LG's factories), the handset will be 0.8mm larger than the iPhone 4S.

And the iPad 3 is heading down the gym too. If the insider is to believed, Apple’s forthcoming tablet will be 0.7mm thicker than the iPad 2 to make room for a twin-light bar system necessitated by the high density retina display it will incorporate.

Fresh conjecture over the Cupertino-based tech giant’s plans comes after separate leaks earlier this month hinted at the existence of a smaller iPad with a 7.35-inch screen – down from the 9.7-inches of screen real estate offered by the current-gen iPad 2.

Meanwhile, iPhone 5-related supply chain heat suggests the handset could pack a ten megapixel camera, an iPad-style aluminium backplate and a flatter design.
