Ask any self-respective businessperson what their preferred smartphone brand for work is and the majority would respond BlackBerry. Or at least they would if it was 2010.

A study conducted by iPass, a company that specialises in the management of remote connectivity of mobile devices, has revealed that Research In Motion’s BlackBerry is no longer the leading platform when it comes with traction with business users.

Of the 2,300 enterprise workers surveyed from 1,100 businesses around the globe, 45 per cent said they prefer the iPhone, up from 31 per cent last year. By comparison, BlackBerry users accounted for 32.2 per cent, slipping two points in the same period.

Evan Kaplan, president and CEO of iPass, said: "While increasing iPhone usage in the workplace was inevitable, this is the tipping point when the iPhone has overcome the BlackBerry on its traditional enterprise turf, and business smartphones are in the hands of nearly every knowledge worker.”

Android came third with 21.3 per cent, nearly doubling its share of 11.3 per cent in 2010. Nokia’s Symbian range saw its share slashed five points to 7.4 per cent, while Microsoft’s now-defunct Windows Mobile managed just 5.5 per cent.

42 per cent of the participants also revealed they use their personal phone for work, which explains the rapid rise of iPhones and Androids in the corporate sector. Moreover, when quizzed about their future purchases, 18 per cent said they would buy an iPhone as their next phone, while 11.2 per cent sided with Android. Staggeringly, only 2.3 per cent wanted a BlackBerry.

Not so long ago one of the IT folks dropped by my office and asked about my 1,200 dollar Cisco phone. I looked at my desk and realized I placed the phone in a drawer over 6 months ago and basically forgot about it.

I have only one communications devise and that is a iPhone. I have my Cisco iPhone application active at all times including Skype for my family, VIBER for my friends located in Latin America and a assortment of SMS apps especially the new LYNC SMS application we are evaluating.

When I first transitioned I found the iPhone to be somewhat uncomfortable on long calls and the speakerphone was subject to issues with background noise. I then purchased a iFusion docking station in order to have a normal handset and quality speakerphone. This is the point I laid to rest my Cisco phone and never looked back.

My iPhone docked in my iFusion has everything I need and more. Nothing beats this combination including the fact I’m keeping the radiation away from the brain. Nothing on the market comes close to iPhone and if you have a Cisco try the mobile application for its much better than the real phone.
