LG has officially confirmed a list of smartphones that will receive an update to the new Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) release of the Android operating system.
The Korean phone-maker revealed via Facebook its plans to bring several high-end models in its Optimus range up to speed with the latest OS refresh.
“LG confirms today that the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS will be initially available for the following high-end LG smartphones which were introduced this year: the Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black, the Optimus 3D and the Optimus LTE.
“We are also continuing to evaluate the ICS OS to determine whether it is compatible with the functionality, features and performance of other LG smartphones to make the ICS OS available on as many LG smartphones as possible.”
Although no specific dates for the rollout were given, LG said: “In December this year, the forthcoming upgrade schedule and additional specific models for the ICS OS upgrade will be posted on our LG Mobile Global Facebook page (www.facebook.com/LGMobile) and on our local LG websites.”
So there you have it. If you own one of the above phones, you can rest easy in the knowledge it’ll taste ICS very soon. And even if it is not among those listed, as LG stated, if an update is determined suitable for lower-end devices it will be available eventually.
