Sony Ericsson LT22i Nyphon leaked snaps

Sony’s upcoming LT22i smartphone - better known as the Nyphon - looks set to be renamed the Xperia P, a certification filing has revealed.

Just last week we told you about another Sony handset, the ST25i, being repackaged as the Xperia U, after a certification application for the handset was uncovered on Indonesia’s Post and Telecommunications department’s website. Now the same has happened with the LT22i...erm we mean...Xperia P.

The single-letter moniker is a clear sign Sony is trying to simplify names of handsets to improve marketability, which has been something of a annoyance for the Sony Ericsson partnership with names as bad as the Xperia X10 Mini Pro.

Sony is soon to take over the joint venture after EU approved of its acquisition of Ericsson’s stake, giving it a full control of the business moving forward.

The Xperia P is to be one of several handsets it’s likely to officially unveil at the Mobile World Congress next month.

Features mooted to be on board include a NovaThor U8500 chipset and a qHD display with a 960 x 540 resolution, plus the latest Android 4.0 – aka Ice Cream Sandwich - out of the box.
