Sony’s debut Android smartphone, the Xperia S, will now be landing by the end of this month rather than in March, Play.com reveals.

The online vendor has updated its product page for the handet, which only yesterday stated a release date on March 9th, with Clove and Ebuyer also confirming availability within a week on either side.

Last we checked, customers can pre-order the Xperia S for £449.99 from Play, which ensures the lowest price if there is a drop by the time of release.

Those unable to find the entire sum, however, will be able to snap it up for a subsidised fee, possibly even free, when it becomes available on a range of contract options from O2, Three, T-Mobile and Orange. Vodafone is the only major network yet to announce whether it will be on board for the launch or not.

The Xperia S looks set to be one of year’s hottest phones with a spec sheet that could give rivals Samsung and HTC something to think about. Key among these are a 4.3-inch ‘Reality Display’ panel sporting a 720p HD resolution, a 1.5GHz dual core chipset and 12-megapixel camera.

There’s also 16GB of on board storage, a front-mounted 1.3-megapixel camera for video conferencing, plus the latest Android Gingerbread release installed out of the box with an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich promised shortly after release.

I pre-ordered from Play.com who said that the phone would be released on 30th Jan. Today (29th) i find that they've moved the date to 13th Feb! Are they going to move it again closer to the new date just to get pre-orders in? Joke!
