A US retailer has cut the asking price of the iPad 2, sparking fresh speculation that the next-gen Apple slate is just around the corner.
According to the iFixated chaps at Apple Insider, Meijer has cut the cost of the iPad 2 by a not inconsiderable $70. That’s not too far shy of £50 in the Queen’s money.

The move, presumably aimed at clearing overstocks of the iPad 2, is being interpreted as corroborating rumours that the iPad 3 will take a bow in the first week of March.
Naturally, specs for the slate remain a closely guarded secret. But leaks from the Apple supply chain suggest it will be equipped with a muscular A6 quad-core processor and offer better battery life.
Apple is also expected to opt for a super high density retina display this time around, having struggled to scale up the screen technology it used for the iPhone 4 and 4S in time for it to be included in the iPad 2.
Rumours also suggest that the Cupertino-based tech giant could even make the tablet available in two size options, with a seven-inch tablet released alongside a 9.7-inch model.
