Apple apostles can pencil in the sixth-gen iPhone for a September launch, tech deepthroats cited by a venerable fan site have warned.
According to Asian sources quoted by Japanese iPhone blog Macotakara, the iPhone 5 “will be released in September or October", no doubt amid the usual ballyhoo and hyperbole that characterises Apple events.
Before the launch of the iPhone 4S in October last year, Apple had traditionally unveiled new iPhones in June. The change meant that would-be buyers were kept waiting 15 months between new handsets.
However, the September/October due date now being mooted for the iPhone 5 suggests that from hereon in the Cupertino company will be returning to its long-established 12-month refresh cycle for its smartphone.
Details of the iPhone 5’s spec sheet are still under wraps. But mounting speculation online suggests it’ll be home to a larger four-inch screen – up from the iPhone 4S’s 3.5-inches.
A sinewy quad-core processor is also purportedly on board to bring the smartie in line with the next generation of Android smarties, alongside a ten megapixel camera and 4G support.
