If you picked up an unlocked version of the Samsung Galaxy S2, then you might ask why it hasn’t been updated past Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread when contract versions already have.

One disgruntled owner, Josh Fullalove (hard not to take someone seriously with a last name like that) definitely did. And we've got him to thank after he quizzed Samsung about exactly that on Twitter and discerned for us all that an update is due to be rolled out "within the next few weeks".

Result, right? Hmm. That's a moot point. Unfortunately, Sammy stopped short of mentioning whether ‘this update’ will just be a newer iteration of Gingerbread, which mostly brings bug fixes, or the latest Ice Cream Sandwich, which is already scheduled for release sometime before the end of March.

Unbranded phones tend to receive newer versions of Android sooner as they skip carrier testing.

Whatever the case, we won’t have to wait much longer to find out. Keep ‘em peeled for more update news and announcements in the coming weeks.
