Fans of space-themed first-person shooter action on smartphones today got their first proper look at the next instalment of the daddy of the genre. Or at least, the title that’s closest to the real, undisputed daddy on consoles: Halo.

The third episode of Gameloft’s N.O.V.A series, that’s Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance to you and me, has been trailed online. And, complete with liberal lifts from the Xbox classic, quite a piece of work it looks too:

Focussing on the game’s all-new multiplayer facet, the clip heavily touts the greater scope N.O.V.A 3 offers for customising characters.

While taking a scenic tour of six combat areas, we also get to see some of the game's 10 deadly weapons in action – including carnage-creating rocket launchers.

Completing the enhancements for Gameloft's third tilt at the series that are glimpsed in the vid is the option for two players to control a vehicle in team-mode, with one taking control of weaponry while their chum steers.

Set to land on iPhone and Android this month, N.O.V.A 3 is also coming to the just-unveiled BlackBerry 10 platform.

The game will be one of 11 Gameloft titles released at launch for Research in Motion’s OS, as the beleaguered BlackBerry-maker bids to attract the kind of developer support it has traditionally struggled to win.
