Nokia has brushed off claims that sales of its Lumia phones will be impacted by their inability to support Windows Phone 8, which was unveiled earlier this week.

The latest OS revamp adds a suite of sexy new features to Microsoft’s platform. Not least among them is more scope for customisation via resizable live titles and NFC support.

Nokia Lumia 900

However, the bad news was that existing Windows Phone smartphones, including the Lumia range, won’t be getting the update, but will instead receive only select features. And perhaps not gallingly that includes the Lumia 900, which is barely three months old.

That’s not phased Nokia, though. Especially, the company’s SVP of Program and Product Management Kevin Shields (sadly not the workshy genius from My Bloody Valentine), who claims that the phone already offers “more than enough” to ensure it continues to win over consumers and keep existing owners sweet.

He told The Verge: "I definitely think it's more than enough. I think that ultimately your typical customer probably isn't all that aware of this upgrade thing.

"I definitely think with products like the Lumia 900, where a consumer walks in and buys that product they're getting great value and they're getting a great offering that's gonna have a long lifetime of innovation."

Shields’ bullish remarks come after Nokia’s profits slumped 40 per cent in the second quarter, prompting a series of cost-cutting measures including the closure of research plants and 10,000 job cuts.
