Everything Everywhere has officially announced it will be launching the UK’s first 4G LTE network under a brand new name: EE.

At a press conference today at London’s Science Museum, the Orange and T-Mobile umbrella company announced its decision reinvent itself as a wholly new network created just for the UK market to finally bring the super-fast wireless cellular standard to our fair isles.

Hailed as the ‘biggest, fastest and best’ UK mobile carrier yet, EE will operate as a separate entity alongside Orange and T-Mobile, which will carry on as normal to offer existing services.

The rollout is set to begin in a few weeks time starting with four major UK cities: London, Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol, where engineering testing will begin today.

12 additional cities will be added before the end of the year, including Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Belfast, Edinburgh and Glasgow – serving a population of over 20 million people.

EE expects to bring more than 70 per cent coverage before Christmas and a staggering 98 per cent of the UK by 2014. 700 EE stores will be open for business by the year’s end. Additionally, a fibre broadband service will also be launched to rival the likes or Virgin and BT.

Pricing is as-yet unknown. But initially at least we expect the cost of getting on board with 4G tariff to be markedly greater than equivalent 3G subscriptions. We’ll reveal more as soon as we have the full details. So keep ‘em peeled.
