Angry Birds Space official

The asking prices for some of Android’s biggest hits has been cut for a limited period, as Google celebrates its app store passing 25 billion downloads.

Right now, the likes of casual gaming phenom Angry Birds Space, London Bus Checker, Asphalt 6 and Runstastic Pro are up for grabs for 25p each at Google Play for the next five days.

The search giant also plans similar time-limited promos on the market’s most popular books and a selection of movies, which will be going for 99p.

A post on Google’s official blog stated: "Twenty-five billion is more than twice the distance, in miles, that the Voyager 1 spacecraft has travelled since its launch 35 years ago.

“It's the amount of time, in minutes, that have passed since some of our earliest ancestors began to set foot in Europe."

Google Play, formerly known as Android Market, took 1,435 days to reach the 25 million landmark. By way of comparison, that’s about 100 days more than it took Apple’s App Store.
