The Galaxy S3’s success follows Stuff magazine’s decision to award it the gadget of the year and smartphone of the year gongs at its ceremony last week, on a night when the iPhone 5 failed to snare so much as a single award.

A matter of weeks before, the S3 also picked up T3’s award for the best phone of the last 12 months, marking Samsung’s second consecutive win in the category.

Touted as the first-ever smartphone to be inspired by nature and designed for humans, the S3 has won fans for the range of novel, user-friendly additions to the standard Android OS.

Not least among these is the intelligent sleep mode function SmartStay and Samsung's Siri rival S-Voice, which is probably best described as a kind of voice activated personal assistant.
