EE has detailed plans to expand its 4G network to take in a further 17 cities and towns across the UK, offering residents speeds up to five times faster than 3G.

During the first three months of next year, EE will begin offering 4G in Bradford, Chelmsford, Coventry, Doncaster, Dudley, Leicester, Luton, Newport, Reading and Rotherham.

The carrier will also switch on 4G in St Albans, Sunderland, Sutton Coldfield, Walsall, Watford, West Bromwich and Wolverhampton.

The latest additions come after EE went live with 4G in Derby, Newcastle and Nottingham. Belfast, Hull, Maidenhead and Slough are all set to get 4G before the end of the year.

Olaf Swantee, Chief Executive Officer, EE, said: “By the end of the first quarter of 2013, 4G will be available in 35 towns and cities across the UK, making superfast mobile accessible to thousands more customers and businesses every day.

“We’re delighted with the progress of the 4G rollout – we are improving the network every day, delivering superfast mobile to more and more people right across metropolitan areas, whether they’re using their devices outdoors or in their homes and offices.”

Swantee also confirmed that EE is upgrading its 3G network with HSPA+ technology to offer faster mobile internet speeds in areas that 4G has yet to reach. The carrier expects this to cover 40 per cent of its network by the close of 2012.
