lg nexus 4 large

The Nexus 4 has returned to sale at the Google Play store, although after previous restocks lasted just half an hour, how long the current window of availability will last is anyone’s guess.

The handset is up for grabs for £239 at the site when bought SIM-free and off-contract. That’s a super-keen price point for a pretty lavishly specc’d bit of kit and is what’s driving the clamour for the Nexus 4 in the pre-Christmas rush.

It's worth noting, however, that Google is pledging to ship devices ordered today in four to five weeks time, so it's worth noting that it definitely won't arrive in time for Christmas.

If industry whispers can be believed, Google is apparently subsiding the price of the phone to the tune of hundreds of pounds for reasons that haven’t yet become clear. And which seem especially puzzling given this strategy’s scope to annoy carrier partners whose offers are made to seem uncompetitive in comparison.

Manufactured by LG on Google’s behalf, the fourth Nexus apes its forbears by running an unadorned, vanilla version of Google’s OS and debuting a hitherto-unseen iteration of the software – in this case, Android 4.2.

It’s also tricked out with an eight-megapixel camera, a quad-core processor and a 4.7-inch WXGA display.
