Phones 4U has begun taking orders for the Samsung Ativ S on O2 and Vodafone, giving punters the option to pick it up on pay monthly tariffs.
Samsung’s debut Windows Phone 8 smartphone is currently available to pre-order on Phones 4U’s website on 24-month contracts from Vodafone and O2. Both networks are offering the handset for free for £33 and £36 a month respectively.
Vodafone’s deal entitles you to monthly allowances of 600 anytime minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data, plus 2GB of Wi-Fi. Or if you pay a quid more on your monthly outlay and £29.99 for the handset itself, you can get unlimited minutes. O2’s offer, on the other hand, gets you unlimited minutes, texts and 1GB of data + Wi-Fi.
Orders placed today are estimated to ship on December 21st. So if you are expecting delivery before Christmas, it might be worth ordering right away to avoid disappointment.
Until very recently it seemed almost certain that the Ativ S might not land in the UK before the holiday festivities. However, this week online vendors Unlocked Mobiles and Clove announced they would be ranging the SIM free version of the handset, which goes on sale today.
In case you were wondering what the Ativ S actually features – it’s home to a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display, a 1.5GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor and an eight-megapixel rear snapper that shoots in full HD.
Elsewhere, there is 16GB of built-in storage (expandable by 32GB via microSD), a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, a 2,300mAh battery and an array of extras that include Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA and NFC, plus preloaded apps such as Nokia Maps and Microsoft Office.
