HTC One official black edition

HTC has boosted the One smartphone’s already stellar camera capabilities with a software update, it has emerged, as the phone-maker takes advantage of its release-date delay to make some last-minute improvements.

Picked up on by HardwareZone.com, a fresh version of the software apparently dramatically improves the quality of daylight images and will be installed on the phone by the time it goes on sale in the UK.

According to the site’s review, the result is that “images are sharper, with more detail”. The upgrade also purportedly addresses a “visible softness in the upper left and bottom right corners, which we attributed to poor lens construction”.

When you’ll actually be able to get your hands on the One is a lot less clear than the shiny new snaps, though.

Supply shortages of key components meant that HTC announced it had postponed its flagship phone’s release until later this month or even early April.

However, since then it has told CNET that would-be owners in the UK will be able to buy the phone, which is up for pre-order with Vodafone now this week.

As well as its much-touted Ultrapixel camera, the One packs 4.7-inch full HD display, a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor and an all-new take on HTC's Sense custom skin.
