HTC One black and silver official (generic)

The HTC One will make its way to UK retailers this week, it has been confirmed, marking the start of what’s set to be a critical period for the phone-maker.

Manufacturing problems and parts shortages meant that HTC’s flagship phone for 2013 was thought to have been delayed until the end of March or even the start of April.

Some analysts and industry watchers regarded the glitches and concomitant delay as a deadly blow at a time when HTC is attempting to recover its position at the smartphone manufacturers’ top table, after a collapse in market share and a 90 per cent slide in profits in the first quarter of the year.

But today it looks like the doomsayers and dread-peddlers might yet be proved wrong, with the news that HTC has told CNET that the One will be “with us in just a few days”, giving the company some vital extra time to make good on its first-mover advantage ahead of the Samsung’s Galaxy S4’s arrival on April 26th.

The One is available to pre-order now from Vodafone and can be had for free when customers sign up for it on the Red plan from £42 per month

Packing the world’s first so-called Ultrapixel camera, the Android 4.2-powered One’s spec sheet also takes in a 4.7-inch full HD display, a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor and a revamped version of HTC Sense that takes more than a little inspiration from the live tiles of Windows Phone.
