O2 will begin rolling out its UK 4G network on August 29th, with customers in London, Leeds and Bradford getting the first taste of the carrier’s lightning fast service.

In total, O2 is planning on having 4G live in 13 cities by the end of 2013. This includes Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow, Liverpool, Nottingham, Leicester, Coventry, Sheffield, Manchester and Edinburgh.

While O2 has yet to fully outline its tariffs, it has said that prices will start at £26 a month for 4G access. It says it will have ‘a range of tariffs available at that price’.

That compares to EE’s £21, although O2’s data caps are currently unclear, with plans expected to be revealed over the coming weeks.

The move heralds the first challenge to EE’s 4G offering, which has been the sole player to offer super fast connectivity on these shores since the end of last year.

Three is expected to launch its rival service later in 2013.
