HTC has been forced to change a key component in its One smartphone, alongside other devices, after it lost a patent lawsuit with Nokia. Without making the tweak, the flagship device will be subject to a sales ban in the United States.

The HTC One breaches Nokia radio transmission and reception patents. The Taiwanese company is being helped by Qualcomm to find a workaround and will have to prove changes have been made when the US-based ITC review the case in January 2014.

It comes at a time when HTC is expected to reveal an operating loss and just days after it was revealed there’s a shortage of its One Mini device, thanks to issues with its case design.

This is not the first time HTC has faced issues with Nokia. It once breached a microphone patent held by the Finnish company. That suggests this problem should at least be fixable before the New Year arrives.
