Apple will drop the next iterations of the iPad and iPad mini on October 22nd, a press invite has all-but confirmed.
As is Apple’s wont, the leaf-adorned invitation doesn’t explicitly mention the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2. And even by the Cupertino tech company’s standards the text is cryptic, only really revealing that “we still have a lot to cover”.
That doesn’t tell us much. But the fact that Apple is warning journos to expect a longer press call than normal surely indicates that more than device could be tipping up. Whether that’s two iPads or an iPad and something else remains to be seen.
A slew of leaked photos and nuggets of information from supply-chain sources in recent months suggests that the 2013 generation of iPads will see the standard-sized iPad and iPad mini converge, with the former taking on the smaller bezel and more rounded edges of the latter.
In keeping with Apple’s late-developing fondness for colour, devices are also expected to break from the iPad’s traditional black or white colour options. Instead they will be offered in the same graphite grey, white and silver and gold shades as the iPhone 5.
The showcase will take place at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco.
