Google has confirmed that its Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets are all set to get Android KitKat, with the rollout of the updated operating system starting today.

For now, owners of Nexus 7s with mobile smarts as well as Wi-Fi will have to wait for the upgrade. Wi-Fi only users should see an over-the-air upgrade come through in the next few hours, however.

The update applies to 2012 and 2013 Nexus 7 models, so those packing last year’s model won’t miss out on the latest software.

Unfortunately, Google hasn’t said exactly when the Nexus 4 or data-loving Nexus 7 will be getting the bump, promising users on Google+ that it’s coming ‘soon’.

Android KitKat adds a slew of new features with a new voice search function that puts Apple’s Siri efforts well into the shade.
