Nokia is readying a new 8-inch tablet and plans to release the device in the first quarter of 2014. That’s the word from supply-chain sources speaking with Digitimes, renowned for its role in serving up gossip to tech news hounds.
Word is the slate will be a high-end model, despite its screen being two-inches smaller than the recently launched Lumia 2520, Nokia’s first foray into the Windows tablet market.
Unfortunately, there’s no word on specs, aside from the screen size.
However, it’s likely Nokia will ensure the device is running the latest version of Windows RT, as well as looking to push the resolution as high as possible in order to compete with Apple’s iPad mini and Google’s Nexus 7.
That first quarter release date could mean the tablet will be on show at February’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
The Finnish company will be looking to go out on a high, with Microsoft set to complete the takeover of its devices and services business around the same time.
