Apple’s high-end iPhone 5S is outselling the mid-tier iPhone 5C by three-to-one, reaffirming previous data which has shown the company’s flagship device is outperforming its cheaper stablemate.

The new figures come from respected number-crunchers at Kantar Worldpanel. It says that iOS accounted for 28.7% of all smartphones in the UK up until the end of October, a slight dip from 32.7% in the same period last year.

However, the company says this is due to Apple offering only ‘incremental’ updates in 2013, with a bigger boost expected when Apple releases the iPhone 6 later in 2014.

Compared to the Europe’s five key markets, iOS is still very strong on these shores. Stats for the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain showed Apple’s system on just 15.8%, a drop of 5% on last year.

Android remains the dominant operating system here in Blighty though, accounting for 55.6% of smart devices. That’s only a small rise of 1.6% and compares poorly to 70.9% on the wider continent and a colossal 90.1% in Spain alone.

Anecdotal evidence has suggested iPhone 5C sales are picking up globally, as average consumers look to upgrade and shop around for a new device.
