Google Play Movies iOS

Google has launched its Play Movies and TV app for iOS, allowing content snaffled from Google’s online emporium to be streamed on iPhones and iPads over Wi-Fi.

While the Apple edition of the application doesn’t offer the same comprehensive, on-device access as Apple’s iTunes, it does at least give users the option to snag content that isn’t available on Cupertino’s platform.

What makes this launch interesting, though, is its compatibility with Google’s superb Chromecast dongle. iTunes lacks the ability to work with Google’s TV streaming device and until now iPhone and iPad users have had to use Netflix or YouTube to watch content.

This launch changes that and, Google hopes, will snare a few users who want to watch and rent movies, but don’t have an Apple TV. There’s only one snag for UK users, however: right now Chromecast is still US only.
