Apple is facing up to a series of issues with its forthcoming iWatch, it has emerged. Battery life, screen materials and the manufacturing process itself are all said to be posing challenges, according to a report from The Information.

Battery issues are said to be Cupertino’s key concern. The company is rumoured to be including a 100mAh cell, similar in size to the one found in the sixth-yen iPod nano.

However, this is said to offer below par performance, with Tim Cook and co allegedly keen for the iWatch to keep kicking for four to five days on a single charge.

Linked to these niggles are continuing problems with the iWatch’s screen. Word is the company can’t decide which kind of display to use, as it battles to deliver eyeball-stroking definition that doesn’t drain the smartwatch’s juice.

Interestingly, the report also backs up rumours from earlier this week that suggested Apple was having issues with the manufacturing process itself.

Yields were apparently as low as 50%, with Apple said to have stopped making advanced prototypes at the end of last year, switching its business to a different manufacturer.

It’s likely that these are all small concerns which Apple will be able to surmount, much as it did with the iPhone and iPad. A release date is still expected in autumn 2014.
