Google Play Editions of Motorola’s critically–adored Moto G handset have gone up for sale on the Big G’s Play Store.

The budget handset is available in 8GB and 16GB versions, costing $180 (£109) and $200 (£121) respectively. Currently, the devices are only up for grabs in the United States and listed as ‘not available’ in the UK. Neither Google or Motorola has said when or if they’ll be launching on these shores.

While Google Play Editions of top-end Android handsets such as HTC’s One and Samsung’s Galaxy S4 offer a major overhaul of the manufacturers’ own skinned version of the OS, the Moto G gets just a minor overhaul.

That’s because the original model ships with stock Android. The only changes relate to a couple of proprietary Motorola apps, which have been ditched to give an unalloyed Android experience, similar to that found on the Nexus 5.

Whether you wait for a Google Play Edition or snap up the currently available model of the Moto G, you’ll be getting a stellar piece of kit. It may be cheap, but it’s laden with features. We're big fans here.
