The Motorola Moto X smartphone is being granted a UK release next month, as the resurgent handset-maker makes good on the warm reception afforded the wallet-friendly Moto G.

The Moto X in its standard none-more-black colourway will be available to buy from February 1st from all the usual retailers and carriers. If it’s the white model you’re eyeing, though, you’ll have to buy it from Phones4u which has secured exclusivity for the first three months of the phone’s release.

Pricing for the Google-owned tech player’s latest effort starts from £25 per month on monthly contracts. Pick up the handset SIM-free and off-contract and you’re looking at a one-off payment of £380.

Featuring a more lavish spec sheet than the Moto G, the Moto X’s key USP is the prime positioning of Google Now’s voice activation technology. Like Apple’s Siri, this enables users to get directions, check the weather and set alarms solely with voice commands.

In an echo of the controversial Google Glass, this is activated with the voice command: ‘OK, Google Now’. Conversely, Siri can only be switched on by pressing a physical button.

The other major sell is Motorola Connect extension for Google Chrome. This enables you to see and respond to text messages from your desktop and sounds like just the sort of Android tweak that could give manufacturers’ customisations a good name.

Rounding things off is a ten-megapixel camera with Clear Pixel technology which it’s claimed captures the “darkest scenes or stop motion blur in bright light”, a 4.7-inch AMOLED display and two-megapixel front-facing snapper for selfies and whathaveyou.

The handset comes in 16GB and 32GB storage options and, as you might expect from a phone straight from the House of Google, runs the latest Android 4.4 (KitKat) software out of the box.
