Samsung won’t be breaking form with branding conventions for its next Galaxy S phone but will follow Apple’s lead and adopt biometric security tech, one of the industry’s premier device-leak specialists claims.
For months, expectation has been building that Samsung will adopt a Touch ID-style feature for its forthcoming flagship smartphone. However, opinion has been split over whether this would use an iris/retina scanner or ape Apple’s iPhone 5S locking mechanism and use a fingerprint scanner.
Today, it's the latter that's looking more probable after a series of typically revelatory Tweets saw the ever-reliable @evleaks throw his weight behind a fingerprint-based security system for the S5.

To prove it, he’s shared what appears to be evidence of an Android application package file (APK) that Samsung will purportedly use to install the feature on Google’s OS.
Not satisfied with that, he’s also unearthed a second APK. This time for something called a ‘3D Tour Viewer’.
As is our man’s wont, there’s no exposition as to what this might be. But earlier rumours indicate that some kind of 3D motion tracking technology will be on board the S5, so his Tweet could be the first credible sign that this is indeed part of Samsung’s plans.

To round off a good day’s leaking, we’re also assured that, as was widely expected, Samsung will run with the name Galaxy S5 for its fifth-generation Galaxy S device.
The tech world is expected to get its first glimpse of the S5 either in February at Mobile World Congress (unlikely, we’re saying). Or during March or April at a press event in London – something we’re much more inclined to believe.
Other putative features of the handset include a lush 16-megapixel camera, an octa-core processor and a wholly redesigned version Android 4.4 that takes it cues from Windows Phone and HTC’s BlinkFeed.
