HTC has revealed it will bring new versions of Google Android to its new flagship line-up for two years after their release, as it bids to restore consumer confidence in its phones running Google's OS.

The mobile-maker outlined plans to improve its record of delivering the latest software during an AMA session on Reddit.

However, the pledge comes with a major caveat. HTC is saying this move will only apply in North America, potentially leaving HTC owners in Europe and Asia in limbo when it comes to the next–generation of Google’s platform.

The move comes after HTC revealed it will not be updating the One X beyond Android 4.2, despite it being less than 18 months old.

That announcement led to widespread anger among users who had paid handsomely for the device.

The news comes as HTC gears up to unveil its next-gen flagship smartphone at Mobile World Congress next week.

Code-named M8, it’s the handset that the Taiwanese tech titan is hoping can save its skin, after another quarter of huge losses and falling sales.
