Apple has bagged the ‘best mobile tablet’ award at the Global Mobile Awards, run by the group behind Mobile World Congress (MWC). That’s despite the Cupertino company not even being present in Barcelona.
Describing Apple’s device as having ‘class–leading performance’ and an iOS system with ‘an undisputed advantage’ in the app space, the GSMA, which runs MWC, suggested no other tablet came close to Cupertino’s effort.
It’s a move that will doubtless infuriate Samsung and other leading mobile luminaries who have ploughed big money into ensuring they have a big presence at the annual trade show.
Samsung is making ground in its attempt to overhaul Apple’s lead in the tablet space, but the iPad brand still appears to have greater cachet.
Other awards went to the HTC One for best phone, with Nokia’s Lumia 520 given the nod as the best budget device of the past year. CityMapper picked up the best overall app award.
MWC comes to an end today. Samsung, LG, BlackBerry and Nokia have all made key announcements at the event.
