Would-be owners of the gold edition Samsung Galaxy S5 might not be able to pick it up on O2, it seems, after the network failed to list the handset in the colourway that tech watchers expect to be most in-demand.

UPDATE: We've now heard from O2 and can confirm it won't be selling the gold edition of the Galaxy S5

O2’s pre-registration page for the handset lists the phone in blue, black and white. But perhaps tellingly, there’s no sign of the so-called ‘copper gold’ version.

That’s especially strange given the huge sales of the gold iPhone 5S and the apparent vogueishness of that blingy shade among consumers right now.

We’ve approached O2’s press people for an explanation. But were we betting men, we’d put our money on another carrier - most probably Vodafone - having nabbed exclusivity on the gold model. Even if just for a limited period, most likely between one and three months.

What we do know is having made a few informal enquiries, the company’s online support team seem to think that the gold model definitely won’t be landing on O2. Although naturally, they’re probably less well informed that the PR team.

The Galaxy S5 officially hits stores on April 11th. Carriers have yet to confirm pre-order dates or pricing, but it's thought that the fifth-gen model could come in cheaper than earlier Galaxy S phones after weaker-than-expected Galaxy S4 sales last year.
