BlackBerry appears to be priming a new virtual assistant tool for its BB10 operating system. Dubbed Intelligent Assistant, it’s been spotted by eagle–eyed fanatics in beta versions of the next BB10 update.
Currently, the app is at an early stage of development and it’s unclear as to whether it’ll have the kind of deep integration that users have become used to with Apple’s rival Siri service and Google Now’s voice controls.
The move into voice comes as Microsoft’s is including a virtual assistant as part of its Windows Phone software.
Its ‘Cortana’ service is expected to form part of Windows Phone 8.1, due to be detailed in full later this month.
BlackBerry’s Intelligent Assistant may not be enough to save the Canadian company from oblivion.
After almost being sold off last year, it's still in the process of liquidating its assets and slashing staff numbers.
The new BB 10.3 build, with Intelligent Assistant, is due to launch later this year.
